A groundbreaking partnership has been formed between the Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC) and Rodman for Kids, aiming to make performing arts accessible to all children. This collaboration will bring a full house of young attendees to a matinee performance of Little Women the Broadway Musical on June 7, 2025. Following the show, participants will engage in an interactive talkback session with the cast and creative team, providing them with insights into the world of professional theater. The day's activities will conclude with a fun-filled workshop at the Franklin School for the Performing Arts, where kids can play theater games with members of the cast.
This initiative stems from FPAC’s commitment to fostering creativity and inclusivity within the arts community. By aligning with Rodman for Kids’ Theatre for Kids program, FPAC aims to dismantle barriers that prevent children from experiencing the transformative power of theater. Bill Stiles, Program Manager at Theatre for Kids, expressed excitement about deepening engagement with youth through access to workshops, discussions, and performances.
The chosen production, Little Women, is directed by Ali Funkhouser and features a talented ensemble cast from across the Northeast. Based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic tale, it follows the lives of four sisters navigating love, loss, and self-discovery. Its themes resonate deeply with audiences of all ages, making it an ideal vehicle for introducing young people to the magic of live theater.
FPAC Artistic Director Raye Lynn Mercer emphasized her enthusiasm for expanding this collaboration to achieve both immediate and long-term goals. As part of their mission, FPAC strives to present high-quality productions such as Little Women, which close out their 2024-25 season.
This alliance marks a significant step toward ensuring every child experiences the joy and inspiration found in performing arts. Through innovative programming like the Theatre for Kids initiative, organizations like FPAC and Rodman for Kids continue to inspire future generations of artists and enthusiasts alike.
